Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to CEQA Alerts. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact us.

1. What is CEQA Alerts?

CEQA Alerts is a service that delivers daily email notifications of new California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents, including Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs), Notices of Preparation (NOPs), and other related filings. The data is sourced from CEQANet, a platform managed by the Governor's Office of Planning and Research.

2. How does CEQA Alerts work?

Once you subscribe with your email address, we monitor CEQANet for newly published CEQA documents. We then compile all the new documents and send them directly to your inbox once per day.

3. What kind of documents will I receive alerts for?

You will receive alerts for the following types of CEQA documents:

  • Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs): Detailed documents outlining the environmental impacts of a proposed project.
  • Notices of Preparation (NOPs): Notices that an EIR will be prepared and made available.
  • Mitigated Negative Declarations (MND): Documents stating that potential environmental impacts can be mitigated to a level of insignificance.
  • Negative Declarations (NEG): Documents that declare a project will not have significant environmental impacts.
  • Revised Environmental Impact Reports (RIR): Updates or revisions to a previously submitted EIR.

4. How often will I receive emails?

You will receive one email per day, provided there are new documents published on CEQANet. If no new documents are available, you will not receive any notifications that day.

5. Is CEQA Alerts free to use?

Yes, CEQA Alerts is completely free.

6. How do I sign up for CEQA Alerts?

Simply create an account and you will start receiving daily alerts when new CEQA documents are posted.

7. Can I unsubscribe from CEQA Alerts?

Yes, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of any email we send.

8. Where does the data come from?

The data is pulled from CEQANet, which is maintained by the Governor's Office of Planning and Research. CEQANet publishes all relevant CEQA documents, and we retrieve this data daily to keep you informed.

9. What areas does CEQA Alerts cover?

CEQA Alerts monitors documents from across the entire state of California. If an EIR, NOP, MND, NEG, or RIR is filed on CEQANet, it will be included in your daily digest.

10. Can I customize which CEQA documents I get alerts for?

Yes, CEQA Alerts supports keyword-based filtering and geographic filtering. You can set up keywords in your account settings, and you'll only receive alerts for documents that match your specified filters.

11. How do I set up keyword filters?

To set up keyword filters:

  1. Log in to your CEQA Alerts account
  2. Navigate to your account settings
  3. Find the "Filter By Keywords" section
  4. Enter your desired keywords
  5. Save your changes

After setting up keywords, you'll only receive alerts for documents that contain at least one of your specified keywords in relevant fields such as the document title, description, lead agency, cities, counties, or project issues.

12. How do I set up geographic filters?

To set up geographic filters (such as filtering by city or county):

  1. Log in to your CEQA Alerts account
  2. Navigate to your account settings
  3. Find the "Filter By Geography" section
  4. Select your desired geographies. You can select any combination of cities, counties, MPOs and Air Districts.
  5. Save your changes
